CAST
plaster bandage
2024
The sculpture 'Cast' is the result of the immersion into the exploration of the body and consciousness. The use of plaster bandages, a material associated with medical procedures and immobilization, underscores the idea of limitation and self-imposed confinement. Gradually enveloping themselves in an increasingly dense cocoon, the artist's once-free movements become encased in a restrictive shell. They create not only a physical casing but also a metaphorical prison of their own making.
In the process of this self-imposed imprisonment, 'blind spots' emerge —
areas that cannot be reached and bandaged. These subtle nuances and accidental gaps are not flaws but symptoms. They point to the imperfection of the bodily system, yet it is through these gaps that escape is possible. The final cast is not merely an imprint of the body but a testament to the overcoming of a slowly unfolding crisis, a visualization of the paradox where confinement becomes a condition of liberation.
